Bisi Bele Bath Recipe (Easy English)

Bisi Bele Bath is a famous Karnataka dish made with rice, dal, vegetables, and spices.
It is hot, spicy, and very tasty.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Rice

  • ½ cup Toor dal (lentils)

  • 2–3 cups Water

  • 1 cup Mixed vegetables (carrot, beans, peas, potato)

  • 2 tbsp Bisi Bele Bath powder

  • 1 small Tamarind (or 1 tbsp tamarind paste)

  • Salt to taste

  • 1 tsp Jaggery (optional)

For Tempering

  • 2 tbsp Ghee or oil

  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds

  • 2 Dry red chilies

  • Curry leaves

  • 1 pinch Hing

  • Cashews (optional)

Cook Rice and Dal

  1. Wash rice and dal.

  2. Pressure cook with water, turmeric, and salt.

  3. Mash lightly and keep aside.

Cook Vegetables

  1. Boil vegetables in water until soft.

Add Tamarind and Masala

  1. Add tamarind water to vegetables.

  2. Add Bisi Bele Bath powder, salt, and jaggery.

  3. Boil for 8–10 minutes.

Mix Rice + Dal

  1. Add cooked rice and dal mixture.

  2. Mix well.

  3. Add water if needed and cook for 5 minutes.

Tempering

  1. Heat ghee in a pan.

  2. Add mustard seeds, red chilies, curry leaves, hing, and cashews.

  3. Pour it on top of the dish.

Serve Hot With

  • Papad

  • Boondi

  • Curd

  • Pickle
