Ragi Mudde Recipe (Karnataka Special)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Ragi flour (Finger millet flour)

  • 2½ cups Water

  • Salt to taste

  • 1 tsp Ghee (optional, for serving)

Boil Water

  1. Take a deep pan

  2. Add 2½ cups water

  3. Add salt and bring it to a boil

Make Ragi Paste

  1. Take 2 tbsp ragi flour in a small bowl

  2. Add little water

  3. Mix well to make a smooth paste (no lumps)

Add Paste to Boiling Water

  1. Pour the ragi paste into boiling water

  2. Stir continuously for 2 minutes

This prevents lumps.

Add Remaining Ragi Flour

  1. Lower the flame

  2. Slowly add the remaining ragi flour (about ¾ cup)

  3. Do NOT stir immediately

  4. Cover and cook for 2–3 minutes

Mix Well

  1. Now mix strongly using a wooden stick or spatula

  2. Stir until the mixture becomes thick and smooth

  3. Cook for another 5 minutes on low flame

Shape the Mudde Balls

  1. Wet your hands with water

  2. Take a portion of hot ragi mixture

  3. Shape into round balls

Serving Suggestions

Serve hot Ragi Mudde with:

  • Karnataka Style Sambar

  • Chicken Curry

  • Mutton Saaru

  • Rasam

  • Vegetable Kurma

Add a little ghee on top for extra taste.

Tips for Perfect Ragi Mudde

✅ Stir continuously to avoid lumps
✅ Use low flame while cooking
✅ Shape balls when hot (be careful)
✅ Eat with curry by dipping, not chewing too much (traditional way)
